We as coaches need to take the initiative to show the support necessary for our teams to thrive. We should at all times be role models for good sportsmanship. Ridiculing the play of our athletes, decision making of our coaching staff or a bad call by an official can only lead to a negative attitude that is carried over to the team and onto the field. Even if we do not always agree with the actions of a player or a referee, remember that they are trying to do their best and they deserve our support, not our criticism.
SMGLL Jets wants to remain known as a Club Team where good sportsmanship is an important part of the total athletic program-for coaches, athletes, officials, spectators, and parents. Please help us to continue the tradition of good sportsmanship.
SMGLL Jets Coaches are here to provide positive support, care, and encouragement for athletes participating in the fast paced highly competitive Club Lacrosse circuit by following this code of ethics:
I will encourage good sportsmanship by demonstrating positive support for all players and officials at every game, practice, or associated sports event.
I will place the emotional and physical well-being of my athletes ahead of any personal desire to win.
I will demand a drug, alcohol, and tobacco-free sports environment for my athletes and agree to assist by refraining from their use at all sports events.
I will remember that the game is for athletes.
I will ask my athletes to treat other players, coaches, fans, parents, and officials with respect regardless of race, sex, creed, or ability.
SMGLL Athletes Code of Conduct
As an athlete, I know I am a role model.
I understand the spirit of fair play while playing hard.
I will refrain from engaging in all types of disrespectful behavior, including inappropriate language, taunting, trash talking, and unnecessary physical contact.
I know the behavior expectations of my Club Team, SMGLL and herby accept the responsibility and privilege of representing the SMGLL Jets and community as an athlete.
Disciplinary Action Related to Players and Coaches for Unsportsmanlike Conduct
Coaches should be aware of the influence they have on their players and realize that player behavior is a direct extension and result of the behavior of the coaches with whom they have been associated. Unacceptable behavior by players is a direct reflection on their coaches. Good sportsmanship must be promoted at all times.
Any coach removed from a tournament game by the game officials or tournament staff must leave the tournament site immediately and will be suspended for the remainder of the tournament. It is at the discretion of the SMGLL Board if further actions are warranted.
Any player or players removed from a contest by game officials, due to a flagrant foul/unsportsmanlike conduct infraction, will be suspended for the next Tournament game played. Players suspended for a game will accompany the team to the game and remain on the sideline for the suspended game. The Head Coach must inform the Director of Jets Lacrosse of the situation as soon as possible. The Director of Jets Lacrosse will then inform the SMGLL Commissioner of the situation. It is at the discretion of the SMGLL Board if further actions are warranted.
